It seems like this balancer doesn't want to move. The tension is so tight that it's impossible to push it down into position in the window frame. Do you know what might be the issue?

Thanks for your photos. Based on what I see here, you have either our S380-21or S385-21, depending on the depth of the bottom shoe. That's the only difference between them. I recommend measuring your shoe and referring to our dimensions to confirm the best match.
Regardless of which of these two options you pick, you will need to weigh your sash on a scale to confirm the best stamp.
