Coil Balance Shoe/Housing

Question

We just bought a house and have no info on the windows installed. After reading some threads and looking at pictures, I think that the right replacement part that I need is the 15-177 Coil Balance shoe.

1) Do I need to replace the coil as well at the same time and if so, how do I know what series 152 LB coil to use...the only ID on the window is it's certification sticker which reads H-LC3048x78/H-LC50 36x72

2) how do you attach the coil spring to the balance shoe?

3) it doesn't look like I have a cut out so what is the tool needed to help open up the window

4) should I replace both sides at the same time even though one is still good; what happens if the coils have different lb ratings?

5) my coil bushing housing looks different than the one that is pictured with the series 152 coil; are their other housings to choose from

Thanks for posting. I agree, the 15-177 looks close. As for your other questions, I will answer them one at a time.

1) If your coil spring is in good condition, there's no reason why you can't reuse them. If you did want to replace the coils, there should be a number on the old spring to let you know what Series 152 option to use.

2) The coil spring slides into one of the slots you see on either side of the shoe, then you just screw it in.

3) If you have no cut out, there are a couple things you can do. I've related some tutorial videos to this page that I think will be a big help. They offer different methods of removing a pivot shoe without an existing cutout in the track.

4) Again, if the shoe is the only thing that's broken then you really only need to replace the damaged hardware. If you did want to replace your coil springs, then it's probably best to replace both sides at the same time. I'm not sure what you mean when you say they have different pound ratings. There should be equal support on each side.

5) The Series 152 spring should work fine with your old housing.
