Confirming parts to order

Question

I am replacing the spiral balances & shoes on 9 windows in a small home. No manufacturer listed on the vinyl tilt windows - possibly originally installed about 25 years ago. Your website is very helpful, but want to confirm...

1. I think the shoes are all the same & appear to be most closely sized to the 9/16th width. Photos attached. Can you tell if this is correct?

2. Should the shoe color match the color of the spiral balance (blue shoe for blue balance; etc)?

3. Spiral balances seem straightforward (5/8ths & all in the blue weight range). One window does weigh right at the 28 to 29 pound range. Do you recommend the blue or black colored balance?

Hi there Tom.

These appear to be tilt window spiral balances such as the 3/8" Series 900 or 5/8" Series 600. If the outer tube diameter is 5/8", you'd want the Series 600. If the sash weight falls within both of the black and blue tips, you could go with either. The decision is ultimately yours.

No, the shoe color doesn't have to match the color of the spiral balance. Start by taking a look at the 15-046. Review our specifications and see if they match up with what you need.
