Constant Force balancer replacement

Question

I need assistance selecting the correct replacement for a double-hung vinyl residential window balancer. The original balancer has no markings other than a #8 on the balancer housing, there are no markings on the coil. The measurements of the double coil balancer is 4 x 1-1/4".

Your balance shoe resembles the 15-087 housing pivot shown below, which would use the S180 coil springs, 15-086 tandem housing, and 16-024 mounting bracket. I would recommend removing your balance assembly from the window to confirm that the specifications of our parts match up to yours.

You'll need to remove the coil springs to check them for stamp codes to choose the corresponding strength options. If there are no stamps, you'll need to weigh your sash and divide the weight by the total number of coils used on both sides of the sash. Thanks for posting!
