For your 18" side load balance, you have either the S380-18 with a 1" depth bottom shoe, or S385-18 with a 1-3/32" bottom shoe. You'll need to measure as shown below to determine which one you'll need. In either case, the spring weight for 17 4 is our (1740).

Thanks for the quick reply. My rulers are not marked for 32nd increments, so I took a photo of the bottom shoe. From the bend of the plastic tab it looks like 1", but the tab is bent a bit outward.

3/32 is such a small increment, I thought I'd let you decide the exact measurement.

I'm afraid it's difficult for us to discern the depth measurement from a picture of a ruler. You will have to use your best judgement and work from there.
