Crank system for windows

A home owner from Jersey city, NJ says:
2 long vertical windows with cranks to open- not functiong. Able to open the windows but unable to close them without having to go outside and push the windows shut. Unsure of we need the whole crank/lock system replaced or which specific parts.

Thanks for writing in. It certainly sounds like you might need to replace your operators. Start by seeing our 39-387 and 39-388 Split-Arm Operators. Carefully go over all the dimensions, compare to your old hardware, and let us know if these are what you need. For a new crank handle, see our 39-114L. If you can lock your casement window still when its closed, your locking handles are probably fine. But if you need one, see our 38-090 and see if it matches your old locking handle.
