Don't see any brand - spring steel snapped

Home Owner from Clinton CT
Hi folks - not sure what I got - windows were here when we got here...probably from early-mid 90's

Also - every vid I've seen on troubleshooting suggests that at a 90 degree angle, the windows will disconnect from shoe and come out - doesn't *seem* to be the case here - but not trying to force anything, while not knowing how they work..

Assuming I can replace the sets of springs...but not sure how they attach to shoe..

First time inside a window track (well, since there was a rope and pulley involved.)

Thanks for posting. It appears you have the 15-143 coil bushing, 15-144 coil bushing cap, and the 15-145 coil support barrel which are all typically compatible with the 15-177 Coil Balance shoe. Let me know if yours differs.

These are all compatible with the 1/2" thick Series 152 coil balance springs. To determine the correct spring strength for a particular sash, you'll need to look for any stamps/markings on the metal coil(s) in the window. If there are no stamps/markings or they are hard to read, you'll need to obtain the exact weight of your sash. Once you have the sash weight, you'll divide it by the number of coils in the window.

To install the coil to the shoe, you will need to slightly unroll the coil so that you can fit the coil into the slot at the stop of the shoe. Then you'll need to secure the coil to the shoe using the 33-072.

In regard to removing the sash, once you have it at the 90 degree angle, you'll need to tilt one side of the window up so that you can remove it. This video does not have the same parts that your window will need, however, it might give you a better idea on how to successfully remove the window without any damage.

Hello Jasmine,
Sorry the long delay in reply...we were away (and honestly, I'm not looking forward to this!) but the shoe looks different - more like the 15-192 "type" of shoe...but the springs are in fact 1/2 inch wide on ours, rather than the 3/4 inch that are mentioned as going with 15-193 shoe.
I don't know if that makes sense.

Also, none of our springs seem to be stamped, so I will need to weigh the window, I guess, but I don't want to fully remove it until I have a made sure the replacement shoes are available

Thank you,
Mark

Given that your coil has a 1/2" thickness, it is likely that the 15-192 is not the replace coil balance shoe you need. However, to confirm with certainty, I'll need to see a photo of the original pivot shoe.

Are you able to provide a photo of the existing shoe?
