Door latches catching in locked position

A home owner from Redding, CA says:

Hi, I've been having some issues with my sliding door lock. The top and bottom latches both get stuck in the locked position. Once I am able to pop the latches open by wiggling the thumb key they operate smoothly. The latches also seem easier to open when I apply pressure above and below the latches when the door is open.

Is there some adjustment I can make so it is easier to unlock the door or did the previous owner install the wrong keeper? I have already had to replace one thumb key when the spindle snapped from being over torqued.

Hello!

It's more likely that some mechanism in the mortise is failing. I'm afraid no adjustments can be made, unfortunately, so you'll need a new lock. See our 82-265 and compare our dimensions with yours to confirm this matches up.
