Gears pop up and down slipping out of contatct with each other under the tension of use. Looks like they were forced open or closed as part of the mechanism is bent. Both right and left need replaced. Do you know the part #? 39-438B?

You could have one of the Encore operator pairs shown in our video below. The determining factor would be the fitting used to attach the straight arm to the sash track.
