Gear for window crank

Home Owner from Saratoga Springs NY
When turning the handle, the gearing attached to the handle spins itself out. Is this part broken or is a part missing ?

I am afraid when that worm gear pops out, it means the entire operator has broken down and needs to be replaced. We can help with this, but we need to see your old operator out of the window, with the link arm(s) in full view. From there I'll do my best to find a replacement for you.

This window is a side by side. Can I open the other side and take a pic of the extended arm ? It's 19 degrees here today. Not sure i can leave the window open that long .

See either our 39-031 and 39-032, or our 39-155 and 39-156. The only difference between these two sets of operator is the length of the link arm, so compare all the dimensions we list on the pictures on the shop pages to see which matches what you need. In any case, for a new cover and handle, see our 39-107 and 39-114L

Great advice. Thank you. I also watched the video on replacing the window mechanism but it shows it with window open. My window is on the closed position and due to worm gear out, I can't open window. Any ideas ?

You'll have to unlock the window then push it open with your hand. Later, you'll need to go outside and push it in to close it. That should do the trick.
