40" long Gorell Window spring

Home Owner from CT
I am replacing the balance in one window and see that S180-7 looks like a replacement. Is the 40 inch long appropriate for a 24" sash?
Also what does the small adjustment screw do at the top where the mounting bracket is located.

Before we can answer these questions for you, we'd like for you to forward us over some photos of your current coil spring system, preferably out of the window. From there, we can confirm whether or not you do have the Series 180 coil spring and we can answer the question about your set up.

Hello! I agree, the S180-7 looks like a great option. This also happens to be 40" long, which is standard for this balance across all window sizes. To be honest, there isn't really a correlation between coil spring travel length and sash size. I know it seems like there should be, but they're pretty much all either 40" or 30", depending on who made it. I think they intentionally make them on the long side so that you have plenty of room to work with.

As for the small screw, I believe it's only job is to keep the 16-024 bracket in place.
