Handle Set Replacement
Thanks for posting. This is a very strange setup. The mortise lock looks like something like our 82-265, which interfaces with handle sets that have 3-15/16" hole spacing, like our 82-030. However, your handle with that side mounted screw holes resembles the 82-080 or 82-081, which has 4-15/16" hole spacing and typically works with entirely different mortise locks. Could you confirm the hole spacing on those side mounted holes (or the distance between their respective centers)? We'll try and determine what the best way of proceeding is from there.

The measurement is 5-1/2" with a pic attached.
I'm curious whether ordering a new Morise Lock and Handle with a Mortise that fits in the existing slot is best. It looks like you may have been thinking that.
In addition, the top screw in the attached pic (and others in this trouble ticket) has the head torn off, so I cannot remove it. The remaining visible, exposed metal is too small to use a vice grip, for ex., or get a tap into it and try to remove using that method.
If the mortise is removed, will that provide a path to removing the handle and access to the screw?

Thanks, Erik. I admit that 5-1/2" was not the measurement I was expecting. We unfortunately don't sell anything that matches that size. Even if you were to switch out the mortise lock (which may not even be necessary), we still don't have anything that would fit on your door without drilling new holes.
Removing the mortise also won't free up that screw; it's not possible to remove the mortise without first removing the handle, so that's something you will need to tackle first before you can change anything. That really does look well and truly stuck in there, so if you're unable to get a grip on it with a tool then you may have to start considering cutting it off.
I am sorry that I can't offer more insight. Ultimately, assuming that you can take the old handle off and are willing to drill new holes, then I think our 82-030 is probably your best bet. This is only assuming that your mortise is identical to our 82-265, but I think odds of that are high. The downside is that it would require drilling new holes, but given that the 82-030 is 7-5/8" high then at least the old holes would be obscured.
