Hardware for hardwareless doors
The outside of the door has a mortise 0.75" x 8" shown in photo IMG_1183.jpg. Photo IMG_1015.jpg shows the top of the mortise not being quite covered by the outside lock and handle mechanism I recently purchased. It has since occurred to me that the outside hardware I should have been looking for snaps into the mortise and provides a recess for fingers to grip. Can you recommend a part?
The inside handle and hook mechanism align correctly with the door holes as shown in pictures IMG_1181.jpg and IMG_1003.jpg (both looking from the inside). However, as shown in photo IMG_1014, the hook mechanism is not spaced far enough away from the door to align with the keeper. Can you suggest a remedy? either a different handle/hook assembly or a spacer to resolve this alignment problem. Here are the photos that go with my earlier email. I do not have the original hardware; the hardware was missing when I bought the place.
The surface mount door handle assembly in my order number 1363405 fits the holes in the door, but the hook is too close to the plane of the door to cooperate with the keeper. The exterior handle I ordered fits, but is not long enough to cover the 0.75" x 8" mortise in the outside surface of the door. At this point, function is more important than style; I just want parts that will work.
Thanks for your help.

Hey, Gordon. I am familiar with your door. Unfortunately, the handle set it used has been discontinued for a long, long time. The hardware you purchased from us already is exactly what I would have recommended. I think it is our best bet, though some adaptation is obviously necessary.
For example, you'll need to cover that hole in the outer side of the frame with a plate before you mount the 82-306. There isn't anything on the market that can still fit in that hole, so covering it is your only option.
As for the 82-005 not meeting the keeper, that's actually a first for me. Usually there's enough space on the frame to line the keeper up but that's clearly not possible for you. I'd recommend shimming the handle out to meet it. My only concern there is that if you shim it too much, the key lock that comes with the 82-306 external handle may not reach it. Just something to keep in mind.
