Homeowner looking for pivot pins and cams

Home Owner from Boston ma

Hi. I have Soft-Lite double hung tilt out vinyl windows that are now having many of the pivot pins break off and I am finding that the metal cams are broken or disintegrated. The windows were made in 2002. The manufacturer will not honor their warranty because they say the old owner of my house did the transfer of warranty wrong. A friend said these are "constant balance" units. Can I just buy the cams and stick in the shoes or is it better to buy both? Do you make these parts out of better quality steel, by any chance? The pot metal is bad.

Thanks

Carl

Hi Carl,

Your pivot shoe looks a lot like the 15-177 Coil Balance Shoe. Although, you'll want to remove the shoe and compare the dimensions to confirm that this is the right fit. Unfortunately, the cams are not sold separately from the shoe. They also aren't made in a different material.

This shoe is compatible with the 1/2" thick Series 152 Coil Balance, which is secured to the shoe using the 33-072 screw. To determine the the correct springs needed for your assembly, you'll need to remove the coils and check for any stamps/markings on them.

If there are no stamps/markings or they are hard to read, you'll need to obtain the exact weight of your sash. Once you have the sash weight, you'll divide it by the number of coils in the window. This will give you the spring strength needed for the coils so that you can select them from the list of Series 152 balances.

You may also need the 15-143 Coil Bushing, 15-144 Coil Bushing Cap, and the 15-145 Coil Support Barrel.

The pivot bar installed to the bottom of the sash could be a few different pivot bars we carry. I'll need to see your existing pivot bar removed to narrow down the right replacement recommendation.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi, sorry for the really long delay in replying to you. I do appreciate the assistance you've provided so far. I got frightened off by reading about the spring removal! On reading your email again more closely I realize I don't probably need to remove the springs. so I know that I need the pivot shoe parts. I measured mine and they are exactly exactly what you suggest. The Second thing you asked for was the photo of the pivot pins. I have attached it here. I think I'm going to need to order an entire house worth of pivot pins and pivot feet. I think I'll probably order 20 windows x 4 feet and 4 pins - is there bulk pricing? Can I ask how I'm supposed to get the pivot feet out of the tracks? On a video by the manufacturer, they show a man using a hairdryer or a heat gun to warm the vinyl tracks and then prying out or prying in these parts, which seems kind of amateurish! Anyway, please see my two photos of the one pin. Thanks

Here's a shot of the track - maybe that cutout will be useful?

Thanks for the photos. Your pivot bar appears to be the 26-030 PivotTrue Pivot Bar. To confirm that this is the correct replacement, take a look over the dimensions.

Since your window already has a cutout, you shouldn't need to use the heat gun to warm up the window channel. You would just need to pull the coil balances and the pivot shoes through the cutout.

You will need to remove the springs to be able to attach them to the pivot shoe. That is not something you'll be able to do while they are still installed in the window. Take a look at the video tutorials tagged below as a reference for how to remove the assemblies.

There is bulk pricing for these parts, which can be viewed when you are entering the items into your online cart.
