Hello,
Wondering how many clockwise turns I make to properly tension a 30" series 400 spiral balance, or is there some other way to know when it is properly tensioned? First time doing this repair.
Thanks

Have someone hold up the sash as high as they can. Now you bring up the spiral as close as you can to the sash. Next, hook on the charging tool, our 75-004, and turn the spiral clockwise three turns. You should feel the tension building as you turn. Do both sides and try the sash. If it slides down, raise the sash and give it another turn. I hope you have found this information useful.

Thanks. When you say "bring up the spiral as close as you can to the sash", do you mean that I should push the spiral into the balance housing as far as I can without letting it spin, and then attach the tool for the turns?

What I mean is this: bring the spiral up into the balance tube as close as you can. It will spin. It is then that you hook the tool on and give it three additional clockwise turns.
