Identify Balancer

Quick Learner from Ormond Beach, FL
Hi, I need to identify the balancer in the attached pictures. The house is old Florida, probably 60 to 70 years old. Windows are original I believe. I've taken all the pictures so hopefully it will be easy to identify. There are no stamps as the ends are rusted over.

Thanks,
Jim

Hi there, Jim.

Your balance looks like a match for the Series 395 based on what I see here. Take a look and see what you think. Note, you'll want to measure only the metal channel when determining the length.

Since there aren't any stamps for this balance, you will have to weigh the window sash on a scale to determine the proper strength option for your replacement balances. There's a chart under the product description on the Series 395 store page that will tell you what option is best depending on the weight of the sash.

Hi Emily. I think you're right, the 395 seems like the right one. Let me ask a quick question. Our window sash appears to weigh 9 lbs. The weight classes are 2310: 5 - 9, 2320: 9 - 15 so should I choose the 2310 where the sash would be at the upper limit of the weight class or the 2320 where it would be at the lower end?

The decision is ultimately up to you! Either option should be fine for you as long as you replace both balances at the same time.
