Hello there. This is called a coil balance system. Specifically you have the 15-199 Pivot Shoe, which works with either 1/2" thick Series 160 coil balances, or the 3/8" thick Series 165 coil springs. Remove your old system and measure the thickness of the coil springs to determine which Series you need. The video below shows how to remove and replace a similar coil balance system. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for the tips with my window springs. I have another quick question. I've noticed that it is difficult to open and close the window. Would you recommend getting a lighter spring with less resistance?

Usually when the spring is too strong, it's hard to close your window but easy to open. If you're having trouble opening AND closing, then to me that speaks of a different issue. I think it would be easier to lubricate the track with silicone spray first and see how it operates. In most cases that's all you need.

Easiest way to confirm is to weigh your sash on a scale and just divide that by how many springs support it (in your case, 6). That will tell you with 100% certainty what strength option you need.
