I have a 26 year-old Jilco / Simonton double hung window. It has a double coil spring set up. I wanted to replace everything including the coil balance, pivot shoe ,coil springs , double coil support/cover and the pivot bars. I had some help with Chatgbt and they stated that I could change that Double coil spring to a single coil spring. They recommended part numbers 15-259 Coil balance pivot shoe, series 159-08 coil spring (my old springs did not have a number and I weighed the window and it was 17.4 pounds). ChatGPT recommended the 159-08 coil spring, 8.5 lbs. Also part number 15-255 single coil support cover, and part number 26-083 pivot bars. Would this be something that would work or should I stick with the double coil spring set up. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I order any parts.
Thanks,
Anthony

Hey Anthony. Simonton windows can use a few different coil balance systems. The 15-259 can replace a specific one, and a pair of the S159-08 8.5 pound springs would make sense for a 17.4 pound window--getting the weight right matters way more than the number of springs. To be absolutely safe though, it'd be best to see a photo of your old balance system and the pivot shoe, just to ensure its the kind this setup can replace.
