Kolbe and kolbe balance springs

Landlord from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin
Hi I recently ordered new balance springs which ended up having the wrong clips.  Order number 3164465.   The steel frame is 25 inches long.  Can you help me identify them?  Thank you, Todd

Hi there Todd.

Thank you for reaching out to us. Your balance is a match for the S751-25, but you'll need the 15-197 shoe, which requires a custom order. I'll email you a purchase link for (2) S795-25 (24HD) balances with the 15-197 shoe attached. Note that the metal channel for the balances is 9/16" wide, so you'll want to make sure yours measures the same.

The 19-030 S-clip isn't included in the order link, so don't forget to add your needed quantity to your cart separately.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Hi Emily I'm a little confused.  I got S751-25 balance springs already. And the number you gave is different so I need to order different balance springs and return my order or just order more parts for the ones I already have??  Thanks much Todd

The purchase link we sent you was for the Series 751, but with the 15-197 shoe attached, instead of the default 15-014. If you wanted to keep the balances you already purchased and are comfortable with swapping the shoes yourself, you can purchase just the 15-197 shoes.

To remove the old shoe from the balance, first secure the channel balance in a vice. Using a pair of pliers, pull the broken piece about 12 inches away from the balance and lock it in place with a pair of locking pliers. This will relieve the tension on the old shoe and provide some slack in the balance string. You can then either untie the old shoe or cut the knot to remove it and proceed with installing the new shoe.

To install the balance back into the window, first remove the sash. Then, attach the channel balance to the top of the window jamb using screws or hooks. Use pliers to pull the shoe down about 12 inches and lock the string with locking pliers. With the tension released, you can easily place the shoe into the window track.
