Length

Handy Person from Cincinnati
On your website, it states that the length Is identified by only measuring the metal channel. The existing part that I have has a stamp on it that reads J 26 however, the metal channel is actually 27 inches long.

This is just a little bit confusing as both a 26 and a 27 inch part exist on your website, I'm not sure which one is the correct one to buy. I guess it would be the 27 inch one however the J 26 stamp on the part that I have, throws me off a little.

Thanks in advance for your help

Hey there,

Thanks for writing in! As you mentioned, the length of the replacement balance would be determined by the length of the channel. The 26 stamp on the balance will not also match what the length for the channel, unfortunately; different manufacturers have used different rating systems over the years. The stamp is typically used to determine the weight range the balance can hold to support the weight of the sash.

While your balance looks similar to our Series 751 Channel Balance, yours appears to have an older, discontinued knife shoe. The 15-014 shoe is not likely to be interchangeable with the shoe on your balances. Your shoe has a completely different metal portion and we've received feedback from previous customers that our shoe did not work.

If you would like to move forwarded with trying these balances out, you'll need the S751-27. Since your stamp differs from ours, you'll need to obtain the exact weight of your sash to confirm the stamp your balances need. There is a chart below the product description that lists the weight ranges each stamp can support.
