Measurements and colors to identify spiral balances

Quick Learner from New Jersey
Hello,

I need to replace a few spiral balances in my windows, but I need to make sure I order the correct replacement parts. Could you please help me identify the part numbers of the spiral balances based on the below measurements and attached pictures?

Here are the colors and measurements of the spiral balances I need to replace:

- 5/8" diameter, 25" length, blue
- 5/8" diameter, 27" length, blue
- 5/8" diameter, 27" length, red
- 5/8" diameter, 17" length, yellow

Thank you.

Hello there. If you're certain all the outer tube diameters are 5/8", then these are Series 600 Spiral Balances. Sometimes with the flimsier old plastic tubes though, the diameter can be tricky to measure, so please double-check to be certain. For instance, there is no yellow tip for the S600-17; but there is for the S900-17. So confirm all these diameters. Get back to me with those diameters and we can go from there.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your reply. I measured them again and they are all 5/8". The yellow one might actually be white and it just got discolored with time. I added a picture.

Should I just place an order of the S600 series?

Thank you.

I agree, that looks like our Series 600 alright. As for tip color, that was definitely once white. White was an older tip color that was way more popular than it is now. These days the Red tip is what companies use instead, but you may want to weigh your sash on a scale to be sure that's right.
