Milgard Sliding Glass Patio Door installed about 1995

A home owner from Carmel, CA says:
Having problems getting door to lock
1. Striker plate in door jam may be missing parts if so what do I need.

2. I installed 2 brass screws in lock (see brass heads in pic) that were missing.
3. One claw is positive up and down with locking snib but other claw is only positve with snib in one direction and works on gravity going the other way. Do not know if defective or or this is the way it workd.

This mortise lock looks potentially like the 82-268B. You'll need to compare all the dimensions to confirm. Both hooks should protrude naturally, so it is possible you need to replace the mortise lock. The video below shows how to replace an entirely different kind of mortise lock, our 82-218; but some general principles this video illustrates should still help you.
