Milgard Window Replacement Parts Help Needed - Channel Balances
Lower Sash:
Glass is 46 ½" diagonally
Glass 39½" wide
Glass 24½" tall
30 pounds
Side weatherstrip(?) ½" wide
Clip in Upper Side jamb Liners(?) are 22½" above the only notches(?)
Current broken balances were not attached, are not attachable, are damaged and match 28" Series 350 Channel Balance S350-28 Option 2760.
What size channel balances should I order to fit the notch and clip? Or should I drill a new notch to fit replacement 28" balances?
Please advise.
Many thanks,
Missy
Thanks for writing in! Were the tabs broken off of the balance on the right? It is a bit difficult to determine the correct balances based on the photos of the balances. I'll need to see a closer photo of the bottom shoes to determine the correct series.
In regard to the notch and clip, are you referring to the metal take out clip? If so, I believe you may be searching for part 16-002.
We do not carry an exact match for the type of top sash guide you are searching for as your isn't made anymore, however, our 18-009 might be worth considering as a replacement.
You will need to trim down the edges from the top of the guide to install them. So please be aware that any altered parts are non-returnable. Take a look at the measurements and see what you think.
Is this previously suggested sash guard no longer available? https://www.swisco.com/discussions/Milgard-Window-Sash-Guide-77-94278
My main question is what length balances should I order when the distance between the take out clip and the lower notch is 22 1/2"?
Thank you.
You are correct. That is another versions of this top sash guide that we do recommend as a replacement for the one you have. Again, be sure to look over to measurements to confirm which of them might be a replacement.
The length of the balance will depend on the metal channel of the balance, so you'll need to confirm the length. Since your balance is stamped with a 2760,it is likely you'll need a 28" channel balance. Although, there could be a chance that they are an older style balance so it could be 27". The only way to know for sure is to confirm the measurement.
I hope this helps!
The balance metal is 27". So should I buy 27" or 28"?
If the length of the balance is 27", you'll need the 27" channel balance. You'll need the 2660 stamp for this balance. The 2760 stamp can support a sash weighing 30 to 33lbs, so the 2660 will work fine as a replacement since it supports the same.
