Multi-point mortise lock

Handy Person from 55116
I'm trying to identify the mortise lock on my sliding door, I just replaced the latch lever which was broken but when I disassembled the unit I discovered that there seems to be separate connections to a lever for the upper and lower latches but the handle only has a hole for the lower one.

1. Can you identify the lock? It has two patent numbers on it 36.262.252 AND #5.820.170.
2. How does the upper latch work, if at all, when there seems to be no place for a latch lever on the handle?

Hey, Bill. Your mortise looks similar to our 82-265, but I recommend looking over our dimensions to confirm that this will work for you. We also sell the 82-107 latch if you needed that.

As for why your mortise has two slots instead of one, that's just because this thing installs on a ton of different doors. Some doors have lower latches, other doors have upper latches. None of the parts you have are meant for any one specific door, they're generic parts that dozens of different manufacturers use, so they're designed with some interchangeability in mind.
