Need a latch that works

My landlord has tried to fix this lock twice, but it still doesn't work. I can get it to latch, but if you barely pull on it the door opens. When it is engaged the switch on the door doesn't fully go to the locked position. It looks like this wasn't the original latch. The distance between screws is 3 1/2 ". The hole they cut for the latch to come through is 1 1/2" x 1". Do you have a better lock that would work? Thank you for your help!

Hello,
Your photos resemble the 82-055 Acorn handle set. We also offer the 82-055K keyed version if needed. Unfortunately, we can't adive if another handle set would work better since we specialize in locating replacements for the hardware used with the door.

The only other option we could offer would be the 82-005 surface-mounted handle set, but it would require making new installation holes and possibly other modifications. Review both options and let us know if you need anything else. Thanks for posting!
