Need help on my broken sliding door

Question

Hi, my name is Rachel Pong. My tenant broke the sliding door. Please see the photos I attached here. Photo 1 - the knob is disconnected with the inside lock parts. There is a very tiny gap in between the door and the edge. I just wonder if there is any tools that can fit there to unscrew the screws on the side. Photo 2 - This is another sliding door, exactly the same as the broken one. This is how it looks like. There are two screws at the sideway. Photo 3 - There is whole at the back of the door. I wonder if it can be taken out to help open the door? Photo 4 - this label is on the frame. Will it help to figure out which model and parts? Photo 5 - There is some numbers on the corner of the window. Will this help?

I tried to reach out the Mercer Industries, but they are out of business already. I also found out that the person who helped installed it have gone out of business, therefore, I couldn't figure out how to get the life time warranty which was promised when I install the window. Do you have any idea what I can on such a situation?

Hey Rachel. It sounds like the thumb lever broke and the entire handle set needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, we don't carry this handle set and I indeed don't think it's available any longer. We've had some customers successfully replace it with a handle set with 3-15/16" hole spacing, such as our 82-030, but I can't guarantee this would work for you. It's your best bet we can offer, however; you could always try the handle set, then return it if it doesn't work. See our Return Policy here. Finally, a broken thumb latch can be indicative of the door's internal mortise lock being broken. You might want to check that before doing anything else. To do this, remove the old handle set and then try manually 'throwing' the mortise lock with a flathead screwdriver. If the mortise doesn't budge, then it broke and was the cause of the handle set breaking.
