Need new window balances

A quick learner from Ft Myers Florida says:
I'm trying to purchase the correct parts to fix my windows. The first attempt at the local place didn't work. I'm fixing two windows so I would like 4 window balances and the correct plastic fittings. Would you help me? The metal sash measures 28 7/8ths. The window weighs 13 lbs but was also hard to close with the 28b original balance. I think I need 28A. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for posting. These balances look like they might be our S380-29 . It comes down to the depth of that bottom nylon shoe, or the 'heel-to-toe' measurement. See the illustration below for reference. If the depth is 1", then the S380-29 should work for you, but I think it's possible you might find the shoe is only 7/8" deep. Please let us know if that's the case; you would need balances that use the 7/8" deep 15-029 shoe, which none of our stock items use but we could make for you via custom order. It is possible the balances you originally tried had too deep a shoe, hence the issues--but confirm the measurement before we decide that's the case.

As far as the stamp, if the sash weighs 13 pounds you're going to want balances stamped 2820, or what conforms with your old balance's stamp of 28B. These indicate balances that are calibrated to support window sashes in the weight range of 12 through 16 pounds. Balances calibrated for a lesser or greater weight range will simply not work correctly for the window. Let me know if you have further questions.

The shoe is 7/8. Ok I guess 28b is ok. How much for four balances of this type?

Perfect, thanks for getting back to us. In that case we will have to custom make this for you. What I'll do now is email you a purchase link and price quote for 4 of these balances. You can use that link to add them to your cart, after which you may check out at your leisure.

These will be 29" long balances made with a 2820 stamp option. They'll also have a 19-005 top and 15-029 bottom nylon fitting pre-attached, so they'll be ready to install out of the box.

Please feel to reach out if you had any other questions.
