Surface mounted Acorn DorWAL L-120 sliding door handle
I'm looking for either a replacement door handle or just the locking mechanism for an Acorn DorWAL L-120. As you can see from the picture, the locking mechanism is on the handle itself, not between the inner door handle and the outer door handle. When I look at the door frame inside my house, you can see the smaller part screwed into the frame (and the trim is cut to fit around it). The door itself has no hole cut in the edge perpendicular to the door handle that would accommodate a latch, just two screw holes that are 3-1/2" apart which support the handle (see IMG_7178).
Hopefully, the pictures explain it better than I can.
Thank you for your help,
Charles
Generally, we would recommend our Acorn 82-055 as a replacement for your hardware but if yours is surface mounted, it won't work. You may be better off trying to alter another surface mounted handle set like our 82-005 to work for you. You would need to drill new holes to accommodate and even then, we can't guarantee that it would work. Look over the installation video we've related for you and see what you think. Thank you!
Great, let us know how it works out for you!
Hi Casey,
Wow!!! I can't say "thank you" enough!! The 82-005 arrived today (two days ahead of schedule) and it fit the original holes that were drilled in the door perfectly! Once I tightened it down, the locking mechanism fit into the latch with no problems. Now I have a sliding patio door that locks! I didn't even have to drill any new holes to make it work. :)
Looking at the two handles side-by-side, what I think happened is that the original door handle broke and the previous owner of my house installed the Acorn DorWAL L-120 just to have a handle on the door--even though it would never fit the latch that was on the door frame.
Thank you very much for your help!
Sincerely,
One very satisfied customer! :)
