Need to fix two windows

Quick Learner from Wheaton, IL
I have two windows with 22" bottom sashes where the mechanism in these pictures have broken. I took pictures of a third window that still operates correctly. These are vinyl windows, apparently Reynolds brand (?), that were installed back in 1998. After doing my research I think you have parts that can work for this type of repair job, but I've never done this before. I'm fairly good with tools and I understand now how the mechanism works (double spring balance system). Can you advise me on which parts I should get? I also am worried about the jams being brittle given how old they are - will the spreader tools you guys have work? Should I try to heat the jamb up with a blow dryer or something? I couldn't find a cutout to get the old mechanisms out. Or is there a problem in creating my own cutout, maybe above the top of the sash so that there aren't problems with air leaking?

I guess "constant force counterbalance" is the correct term. And I know Reynolds is no longer in business.

Hello,

I can't be sure with the original housing still installed, but the 15-087 would be a good place to start. Review the specifications below compared to yours. If it's a match, we also offer the 15-086 tandem housing. These would use the S180-07 coils based on your stamp code. We also offer the 16-024 mounting bracket.

We only suggest jamb spreaders for professionals, since they are quite expensive and can damage the jamb in some cases. See our cutout video below to allow you to replace the original hardware. Thanks for posting!
