Recently this broke and I'm thinking it needs a new coil balance - I only know it's the MI 4300 series white window - your help is appreciated. Thank you , Randy
New Lennar Home - need replacement Coil Balance for Single Hung Window
Thanks for posting. I am confident we can help, but I am afraid that label does not tell us what coil balance assembly you have. Without seeing the coil balance assembly, and the pivot shoe in particular, we won't be able to narrow this down. If you could remove the entire assembly and show us photos, that would be a great help. We'll also need to know the width and thickness of the pivot shoe. From there we should be able to narrow this down.
Thanks for your help.
I've attached some more pictures - hope this helps. There is an M8 Stamp on the plastic housing
As far as the size of the pivot shoe - looks like 5/8" x 5/8".
I do know that the cartridge in these windows is one full unit vs. parts like I see in your videos - if that makes sense.
Thanks again and look forward to your response.
Respectfully, Randy
Thank you! I believe this to be our S161-08 coil balance. This has the same kind of carrier housing as your original and is rated to hold 8 pounds per assembly; so if you order a pair, that will grant you a total support range of 15 through 16.99 pounds. Note that these are sold individually.
Please look it over and let me know if you had any questions! Be mindful of the thickness, as well; we have another assembly that is similar in design but is much larger.
This video helps but does not really tell the story for a single coil/single hung window.
Thanks again - any detail description of how I reattach is appreciated.
There should be an anchor point or bracket of some sort near the top of the track. The coil is meant to hook onto that, which secures it to the frame. You would then pull it down to get it in a good spot to reinsert the sash.
The diagram below shows you how this looks for a different kind of window. While the hardware may differ, the principle of installation is the same. Hopefully this helps clarify.
I see now.... I think I finally get it. :)
To confirm - on my single hung window... what I do is hook the coil into the bracket and then re-tighten it and then lower the new cartridge so the sash can be properly re-inserted into the frame.
I do see an existing clear bracket that is above the bottom half of the lower window and I do see an opening at the very top of the frame where I can easily slide all the parts in and out and do the job correctly.
I took some pics of a properly working window - hard to get up close but I do see the metal coil that is attached to the bracket.
Does my description sound accurate for my particular window design?
Thanks so so much - you're amazing
Yep, that's exactly right! That plastic bracket you see appears to be the same as our 16-030, which is fully compatible with the Series 161 spring.
Look forward to getting the part - until then if I have any other questions I'll be in touch.
Enjoy your day, Bob.
