Old Sliding Glass Door

A handy person from Honolulu, Hi. says:
Hello,

I'd like to install keyed entry hardware on my old sliding glass door. The door could be about 60 years old and I can't find the name of the manufacturer on it.

Thanks,
Jenny

Tom from SWISCO responded:

Hey, Jenny. I'm afraid we don't have anything for your door. I doubt you'll find any of the original hardware even if we did know the manufacturer. It's just too old.

You could possibly use something like our 82-005 surface mount handle set, in addition to a keyed 82-306 exterior pull. These are nice because they mount to the face of the door without depending on any pre-existing internal hardware. The only issue, however, is that your old handle seems to mount into the door frame from the side, over the glass. I'm not sure if there's an important reason for that or not. You'll have to drill new holes for the 82-005 and 82-306 to work, and if the glass goes too deep into the frame then there is a risk that you could hit it, which is no good.

Look these parts over and let me know your thoughts.
