Pair of non-tilt channel balances needed -- PART 1

Hi,

Home owner looking for a pair of non-tilt channel balances as replacement for a broken one. I have looked at your series 380 (S380-29) 2870 for 40# sash as a potential. I have included data below and images of balance parts for your team to check for the best fit. The only exception to the measurements of your 380 series appears to be the depth of the shoe (15-005) at 1 inch which is about 1/16 off what I measured on my balance. Probably insignificant -- maybe? And I don't know how much slop there is in the making of the windows to make an educated guess.

I have not been able to find information for the identifier (05/10 UNIQUE 28-F-60). If "60" means 60#, why use it for a 40# sash -- over kill? We have noticed these windows particularly hard to open/close. Would appreciate knowing what it means for my records. Please email if you need other information or images.

Your balances do appear to be a version of our S380-29 channel balance, however, it looks like your shoe might have a 7/8" and this would be our 15-029. If that is true in this case, you will need a custom order balance, which we can provide for you.  Carefully compare that measurement, using the diagram, below to confirm.

In regard to the stamp on the balance, the 60 does not mean that the window will weigh 60lbs. That number is particular to that balance manufacturer and does not make a difference in choosing the stamp for your window. Given that your sash weighs 40lbs, the 2870 stamp will be the correct stamp for your window; it is made for a window weighing 39 to 42lbs.

Once you've double checked the measurement for the bottom shoe, if it is truly 7/8" as I suspect it may be, I'll be able to get the order link sent over for the (2) balances.

Thanks for the quick response. I am unsure the 7/8 would be a good fit. Is it that SWISCO does not offer or have in stock a 5/16 inch depth winged shoe? I noticed you stock Rollyson items. There is a Rollyson item 60-904 on the net that is 15/16". As they say in the measurement world -- you can take some material off if necessary, but you can't add it back.

My initial measurements were referenced off a standard school ruler -- not the best. This time I used my digital caliper and the results are closer to the 15/16 inch than the 7/8 inch. Anyway, below are the latest data.

New measurements:

Equivalent for 15/16 -- 30/32, 120/128; for 7/8 -- 28/32, 112/128.

shoe #1 -- 119/128 both sides
shoe #2 -- 29/32, 17/128

I would recommend using a tape measurer to make absolutely sure. The shoe does not look like it has had a lot wear and tear on it. Given that, it does not look like the shoe was 1" and there are none made with a 15/16" measurement.

If you are sure that the measurement for the depth of your shoe is 15/16" (the front to back shown as 7/8" on the diagram above), you can use the S380-29 as previously recommended.
