Patio door latch

I'm afraid I don't recognize this handle set. This looks very old. Would you happen to know who made the door? Can you also remove the handle from the door and show me how it latches close?

I don't think we can get an exact match for this, but I maybe able to suggest something that's comparable. I just need to know how it latches first so that I can find you something with a similar function.

Thanks so much, this is very helpful. However it does confirm a major issue: we don't sell anything that works precisely like this handle set. I would say that the best option in our inventory is going to be the 82-005 surface mount set. 

This uses the same kind of latch to lock in place, but it additionally has a flat, metal portion that extends in addition to the hook. It doesn't appear that the existing hole in your door frame can accommodate that feature, so you would have to make an additional slot. 

I would also wager that the installation hole spacing won't line up, either, which means you will probably have to drill new holes in the door entirely.

If you're handy, then you should be able to adapt your door and door frame to get the 82-005 to install and function properly. If you aren't, however, or if you're unfamiliar with this kind of project, then I would recommend having a professional do the installation for you.
