Pivot Rod rusted apart

A handy person from Jamaica Plain, MA says:
Hello,

Wow I am sure glad I found this website! From other posts I have read y'all seem very helpful and knowledgable! I hope you can help me out today.

It appears that the pivot bar has rusted through on both sides of the window disconnecting it from the balance springs thus preventing the window to stay open.

I have not yet been able to remove the remainder of the pivot bar from the window as the retaining screw is rusted to the bar. Please see the photos to approximate the dimensions. In IMG_7350.JPG the bar appears to be about 2 1/2" long though.

The balance spring and shoe on both sides appears to be in ok condition and the number stamped on them is 640. That is the only number I could find on any of the parts.

Please provide all the part numbers and availability to purchase so that I may complete this repair. This is a window that is used very regularly so I will gladly purchase all new parts if it is recommended.

Please let me know if you need more photos or information to help your part search.

Also, these parts were easy to remove because they broke away from the window. Is there a video or instructions showing the correct installation procedure? Any help with that will be much appreciated!

Many thanks in advance and I look forward to your reply.

Thank you,

David

Hello, David! Hopefully I can be of some help in this project.

So, your pivot bar is a little too corroded for me to accurately identify, but based on the pivot shoe and the space in the sash where it installs, there's a very good chance that you have our 26-040. The only thing I'm not 100% sure on is the position of the screw hole compared to the front tip (that is, the tip that goes inside the pivot shoe).

For now I do think the 26-040 is your best bet. You may also find the video below to be helpful. Rusted pivot bars are super common, and while the method of removing them isn't always going to be the same (just because of how the damage spreads) the instructions in this video still work in most cases.
