Pivot locks or is this a channel balance?
The symptom here is that the window does not stay up. Double hung windows but also have the ability to tilt in. Not to really be used in a permanent position like that but more to enable removing the window or cleaning it.
I'm a homeowner who does a lot of DIY stuff, but I haven't had any experience fixing windows yet.
Hello! What you have here is called a coil balance assembly. It definitely looks like you need a new pivot lock shoe, which is just one component of a coil balance assembly, but you may want to consider replacing the springs, too, just in case.
See our 15-177 shoe and Series 152 spring for my recommendations. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about these products.
How do I select which of the Series 152 springs I may need?
There should be a stamp printed on the old coil spring, just about where the screw hole is. That will require removing the old springs beforehand, though.
If you didn't want to do that, the other way to determine that is to weigh the sash on a scale and then divide that number by how many springs support it; in your case, 4. So let's say your sash is 20 pounds, for example, you'd want to get four 5 pound springs.
