Pivot shoes?

I have one window that will open but not stay up. When shut, it does not close all the way, so I'm not able to lock it. I was determined today to maybe figure it out, lol. I removed the bottom pane and saw on both sides, cording attached to a piece in the side slides. When I looked at the bottom of the window I saw rods on both ends. I knew they should be in those 'corded pieces' but the rods were too thick to fit in the slots. Reminds me of the pivoting screws when putting turn together. Are there replacement parts and is this something I can do myself?

Thank you!!

Hey there!

Thanks for reaching out to us. Would you be able to remove the pivot shoe? It reminds me of the 15-208 but a lot of it is obscured by the window track. Can you also show us a photo of the hook it uses?

If you need the balances as well, we would need to see them removed from the window along with any stamps on the metal channel. I'm not sure what you mean by rods, however. Can we see a photo of that?

Hi, thanks for your quick response. Now that Helene has come and gone, I can properly clean the window track for better pictures. First pic is the 'rod' I was speaking about. I knew it was not sitting in the 'slot' correctly. I removed them for setting the window back in place and now able to lock the window. I know it is not completely secure, but will do for now.
The 2nd and 3rd pics are the left and right side of the window. Hopefully you can now see how I think the pivot point may not have been completely in place at time of install and got 'left/stuck' in the bottom of the track. (LOL-side like I might have some sense-LOL)
Thanks for your time and attention to my request.

Thank you for the additional photos! The rod you're referring to is called the pivot bar. I don't recognize the style from what I can see in your photo, however. Would it be possible for us to see it removed? Can you write out the distance from the center of the installation hole to the bottom of the pivot bar?

Is there not currently a pivot bar on either side of the window? The pivot bar must be installed in the window sash and inserted in the pivot shoe's metal cam for the window the operate.

The hook shown in your photos appears to be the 62-105 which is commonly used with the 15-208. This configuration isn't a balance assembly we stock but we can still help via custom order. Can you tell us the stamp printed on the metal channel? Can you also confirm the length of the balance's metal channel?

Hi Emily....
I made notes, started taking pics of everything...and then it dawned on me. When I built my house in NC, we used tilt windows and once in awhile would get off-kilter when doing the tilt, causing the entire window panel to come out and of course the 'balance' would spring back up to the top.
SO....I took a flat screwdriver and rotated the pivot, checking for loosening and tightening to stay in the middle of the track. I turned the pivot just enough for it to stay in place but be at an angle for the 'non-moving' pivot bar to shimmy into place. I tilted the window panel to one side and then the other side. getting the bar just right.
Yippee!!! the bar seated just right into the shoe and when I pushed the window upright and into the tracks...it worked!
Thank you so much for your assistance with this. Sometimes it takes talking with an expert and doing some thinking, the answer presents itself.

I'm happy to hear that you were able to reinstall the sash and everything is functioning as it should! If you determine that any of your parts need to be replaced down the line, just let us know and we'll be happy to pick up where we left off.
