Ply Gem tilt window broken springs/stuck balance

Home Owner from Lihue, Hawaii 96766

Both sashes, top and bottom, have a problem with balances and what I think is the spring, or coil, that has popped out of its housing. I am the woman of the house and the designated fixer for all house problems, so was hoping to get the parts and salvage this window, You can see  that one foot has broken off, so I am not sure if I need a new window or if I can fix that with a replacement part (or hire someone to do it.)

A houseguest broke this window and did not tell me, so I discovered it and found it will not close completely..the top wants to fall down and the bottom is hard to pull up. I took out the bottom sash to get these photos. Wonder if you can help. The Warranty info is: WSC5127821. 10. 12-15 --see attached photo. I got the top pushed up tight enough to tun the lock but it is not very secure.

Hope you can help me identify what I need and will tell me if this is fixable or should I be buying a new double window. Mahalo! Lani

Hi there Lani.

Your pivot shoe looks like the 15-228, which uses the 3/8" Series 165 and the 1/2" Series 160. You will have to measure the width of the coil spring band to confirm the best match. There should also be a stamped weight code.

We can help with the pivot bar, but yours is too damaged to ID, so we'll need to see an undamaged version removed from the window sash. Written-out dimensions are also helpful.

Aloha, I am the contractor helping OP. Here are the attached photos of the pivot shoe, and then the photos of the pivot bar.  We have confirmed the coil spring band width is 1/2", which would translate to the series 160.

Here is the photo of the coil spring band code. I believe this would be a series 160 (1/2") 3.5 lb spring and it is 35", correct? Also, if you could please give us the link to the white part that is static in the track and connects the coil spring to the pivot shoe (I believe this is called the balance)

Our 15-228 looks like a match for this pivot shoe. The S160-03 3.5-pound coil spring is indeed the compatible coil spring based on the old stamp. The 15-150S single coil support is sold separately.

As for the pivot bar, take a look at the 26-452. This comes to mind for the old pivot bar, but we recommend you review the specifications to see if they match your repair needs.
