This looks like an old rod balance that is no longer made. You should be able to replace it however with one of our tilt-window channel balances here. To know which, please show us photos of whatever attachment is at the bottom of the balance. We will also need the length of the whole rod, as well as the weight of the window sash these balances support. We'll do our best to narrow down what you need thereafter.
These photos are a huge help, thanks! My suspicions were correct: you have an old rod balance that has been discontinued for quite a few years now. Yours in particular used to be called a "crossbow" balance. The good news is that this can be replaced by our Series 795, but it is going to take a fair bit of handiwork.
I'll share a video below that will walk you through the process one step at a time. As long as you follow the instructions here, you should be able to get your window working again, but make sure you set aside an afternoon for it (or more). I wouldn't exactly call this a beginner's level project.
One last note: before you buy anything, make sure to measure the diameter of the spring. If it's less than 1/2", our Series 795 will not work for you. Get back to me if that's the case and we can work from there. That said, your springs should be 1/2", but you should measure it anyway. Better safe than sorry.
The replacement T-lock shoe should be the same width as your crossbow balance shoe. Could you elaborate on what you mean by them not locking the window? The balance should lock in place when the cam opening faces upward and release once the sash is installed in both T-lock shoes and reinstalled in the sash frame as shown in our video above.
Thanks for your patience while we researched this. I myself have never come across with this problem with other MW windows. I've been successfully using the Series 795 to replace the old crossbow balance in this exact application for many years now.
We checked our 15-195 it is 1-1/4" in the rest position. When you turn the metal cam to the "up" position it expands to 1-3/8". The 15-194 is 1" wide at rest, and when you turn the center cam it expands to 1-1/8". So the 1" wide 15-194 won't work for your window.
In your photo labelled IMG_4263, you show the 15-195 in the rest position. It equals the width of the old "T" lock shoe, but after you install the new balance and try to lock it in place, the center cam won't go in the up position.
The only thing I can think of that you could try is to maybe file down the white locking brakes. However this is not something I've ever had to do for this application before. Before you make any alterations like that, you may want to consult a local professional to see if they can do the installation for you.
