Replacement Spiral Balance for single-hung Aluminum window in High-rise
I am in need of a replacement for "spiral balance" for my aluminum single-hung window. I am also not sure of the type of spring winding tool for this balance and whether or not I need 1 or two spiral balances.
I am unable to remove the window in this high-rise building to install the balance(s) ( window installed in 1967 ), so advice on how to do this with the window in place.
I would appreciate your advice and the potential replacement balance cost(s).
I look forward to your response
Thanks for reaching out! Your spiral balance appears to be a non-tilt balance with a yellow tip. To confirm the exact series you need, you'll have to confirm the diameter of the balance. The spiral balance you need is either the 3/8" diameter Series 400 or the 5/8" diameter Series 500.
You'll also need to confirm the length of the metal tube, not including the plastic tip.
These balances both attach to the bottom of the window using a clip or bracket. If you are replace those as well, you'll need to remove them from the window, if possible.
I sent information last Wednesday, June 7 with the pictures above to get your advice on which color balance to obtain for one side of this window. By the way, I live in a hi-rise and the window can't be removed - so I would like to know how to connect the balance to the window from below on each side. Please use these dimensions to respond ASAP.
Dimensions:
Length of tube - 38 in. / Outer Diameter of tube - 5/8 in.
Window dim - L 39.25 in. W 24" D 1.25 in. at the top & 7/8 in. at bottom
I do not have a scale that will measure this window that can't be removed.
I did respond to your request on June 12, 2023, however, I do not believe your received the response. It may have ended up in your spam/junk folder.
You'll need the S500-38 spiral balance with a red tip. These balances both attach to the bottom of the window using a clip or bracket. You'll need to examine the bottom of the window to see how it installs.
If there are any clips or brackets, you'll need to remove them from the window to confirm the replacement you need.
One question from your two responses: Will I need a red or yellow spiral balances?
I also will need a 75-005 adjusting tool - right?
Thanks,
Dan
As motioned, you'll need the red tip balance. If you do not presently have a charging tool, you will need the 75-005 non-tilt charging to to add tension to the balances during installation.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist with.
Have a great day!
