Replacement Window Balance Coil

Home Owner from Perth, Ontario, Canada
Good morning,

I am looking for replacement window balance coils for 2011 double sash Jeld Wen windows. I have attached a couple pictures to show the type of shoe that is used with the coil, but have not taken the coil off the frame at this stage.

The sash weights about 19 lbs.

Would you be able to provide a suggested replacement part for this item and the associated cost, including shipping.

We are located in Perth, Ontario, Canada and our postal code is K7H 3C3.

Thank you very much.

This looks like you have a pivot shoe that was discontinued in the past year. The good news is that the 15-177 Pivot Shoe can be used as a replacement. This shoe works with Series 152 Coil Balances. Based on your sash weight, you can use one S152-9 on each side, along with the related support parts.

Once the parts are added to your cart, you'll be given multiple shipping options to choose from at checkout.  Thank you.

Good day,

We have a couple more questions before proceeding with an order.

1 - Does the metal inside the balance coils fatigue over time? The balance coils on our windows are still intact and don't appear damaged but they don't seem to be strong enough to old the top sash of a double sash window in place completely. When operating the bottom sash, the top sash will usually drop down 1/2" - 1" and needs to be held manually in order to lock both windows together.

2 - The pivot shoes that we have are still in good condition. Do we need to replace our shoes as well if we replace the coil balance with the model you suggested or will it be compatible with the existing shoe?

Thank you

It's possible that your original coils may not have been strong enough to support the weight of the window sash if there is no visible damage. If you want to be on the same side, you could use two S152-5 coils on each side, which will offer a bit more support.

your original pivot shoe and the 15-177 but use the same S152 coil springs, so you should be able to reuse the original shoes if they are still in good shape.

Thanks for the quick reply.

If I use 2 coils on each side, what cover would you suggest I get for them, since the one in currently on the windows is for only 1 coil.

Thank you

Each coil would use a 15-143 bushing, 15-144 cap, and 15-145 barrel.
