Replacing handle

Home Owner from Hardyville, KY
We bought this house about a year and some change ago and have been wanting to find a door handle for this sliding door. The issue is that the previous homeowners said they tried several "universal" handles and none of them worked. I'm assuming the company who built the house (it's a manufactured home) would want to replace the entire door and frame, we're just looking for a quick fix to improve home security as it's difficult to lock and unlock this door. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for posting. There really isn't a universal handle set; not at least if you want to make use of your door's configuration. This looks like a handle set that has 3-15/16" hole spacing, in which case our 82-030 could work as a substitute. You can install the 82-310 Key Lock to this replacement handle set; this blog article here explains how. Note that if your original handle had trouble locking, and if the thumb lever on the inner pull also did not operate smoothly, the culprit may be the mortise lock in the door itself. To test this, try manually throwing the lock with a slotted screwdriver. if it doesn't budge, you know you need to replace the internal lock. We can help with this, but we'd need a picture of the mechanism to get started.
