How can I use your S795 Channel balance to replace my S850

Quick Learner from Rehoboth Beach, DE

I was just speaking with one of your reps. I currently have a window with broken block & tackle rod that is identical to your S850 series (in fact, the windows were manufactured by a company in NJ that is no longer in business...installed in 2009 when the house was built).

Mine measures 28" from the bottom black shoe (which is 1 1/4" wide) to the top white bracket. You no longer carry the 28", so your rep said I should go with the Series 795 28" (which would be option C since my bottom sash weighs approx 22.5 lbs).

In order to use the series S795 your rep said I would need to change the pivot bar to the 26-021. That I'm unsure of because based on the attached pictures I'm not sure how I would replace the current pivot bar with the new one.

In the attached pics I have included a pic of the broken balance. The white clip in the middle that the coil spring attaches to was broken in half. I super-glued it back together but sure it will not hold.

I kind of feel like the best option for me is to just purchase the Series 850 30.5" long and just cut the gray rod down to size.

Please advise!

I don't recommend cutting down a Series 850 balance at all. Theoretically, the cord would also have to be cut to size but that wouldn't be possible, since they are under a very precise tension. Once that spring is out of the balance, that balance is no longer usable. Not only that but the spring might be too strong, since it would be calibrated for a 30.5" long balance, not 28.5".

There is no problem in changing over to an S795-28 balance. The installation is the same. I'm not sure what your concern with the pivot bar is. It looks like you have our 26-318 pivot bar now, and this part has the same hole spacing as our 26-021 .You just unscrew it and screw the new one in. What exactly is your concern with this pivot bar?

Thanks for the response! I will order the S795-28 balance with the 26-318 pivot bar.

As far as my concern, I think you just addressed it. I'm not fluent in this stuff and trust your guidance, as you are the expert!

Thanks again.
