Simonton Window Coil Spring replacements

A handy person from Elizabethtown, Ky says:

Swisco Team,

Looking for the Coil Spring balance and necessary accessories. for six windows (all same size).

The current springs are Omega 5.5 64" doubled on each side. I am pretty handy so I feel I can replace myself and understand that with Simonton some mods have to be made. Confident with the right instructions this should not be a problem. I will call tomorrow but wanted to send this so you had the actual pictures of what I am working with. Thank you.

Respectfully,

David

Hello,

I would recommend removing your pivot shoe from the window to compare to the 15-111. If it matches the specifications shown below, you will also need the S160-5 coil springs. Please note that these coils have a travel length of 35".

You also mentioned that there are two coil springs on each side of the sash, so you would also need the 15-150D support. Take a look at these parts, as well as the related items shown on our product pages. Thank you!

Swisco,
Think I am 95% certain and ready to make the purchase. Weighed my sash and it is exactly 20 pounds. Is it appropriate then to pair a 4.5 with a 5.5 on each side to get 10 pounds per side?

You did not mention changing the pivot bar but they are bent and one of your video's said they needed to be changed.

Lastly, My Coils with support were mounted up top of the window assembly. I assume that could have contributed to the failure but these being 35 inches that I can mount them just above the half way as in most of your videos.
So, I need for 6 windows:

1. S160-5, 5.5 lbs Series 160 Coil Balance; x12
2. S160-4, 4.5 lbs Series 160 Coil Balance; x12
3. 15-150D, 1/2 inch Double Coil Support; x12
4. 15-111, Pivot Shoe, 1/2 thick; x12
5. 26-241, 3 inch Pivot Bar; x12

Please confirm, I will put these items in a cart. Thank you.

Respectfully,
David

I agree that you could use an S160-5 and S160-4 on each side of the window to support a 20-pound sash. You are also correct that you would need to install your balance assembly lower in the track to accommodate for the difference in travel length if your originals extended 64".

As for the pivot bar, you wouldn't necessarily need to install new pivot bars the originals are still in good condition. If some of them are damaged, you would need to remove an intact pivot bar to compare to the specifications of the 26-241 that you're considering. If you're unsure if it would work, feel free to send us photos of your pivot bar with written-out dimensions to look into this further for you.
