Simonton Window Pivot Lock Shoe

Handy Person from Sewell, NJ
I need to replace some of the Pivot Lock Shoes on my Simonton Windows. I believe they were installed in 2007.

Hello there. I am afraid I can't quite see the shoe with the sash still connected. Does it look like our 15-192? If so, your original shoe was discontinued, but the 15-192 might work as a replacement; however we have found the 15-192 does not fit Simonton windows well, and you'd need to rub down the 'alignment nubs' on the face of the new shoe for it to work. Alternatively, you could replace the shoe and the entire coil balance system in the window with our 15-259 and Series 159 springs. The video below explains more.

Thank you for getting back to me.

The bottom part that the sash connects to looks a lot like the one being replace in the video, but the top part is a little different. I have attached two new pictures that I hope show it a little better.

I'm afraid to remove the sash to get a better picture, as it's below freezing outside, and I am afraid the remaining one will break too.

Thank you,

Len

Hello, Len. Given that your window is a Simonton brand, and based on what I can see of your existing hardware, I think Bob's recommendation is pretty solid. I've used the mentioned hardware myself to repair Simonton windows like this plenty of times in the past and I've had a lot of success.

Just note that you will inevitably need to remove the sash before you buy anything. Since you're converting to a different balance system, weighing the sash on a scale is a necessary step to allow you to pick the proper weight rating for the Series 159 spring. There's no way around that, so you will have to do it sooner than later.

That's important to keep in mind as you move forward on this project. You may want to wait until warmer weather if you think there's a risk that you can't put the sash back in the frame.
