Simonton window single hung window 5# coil balance

Home Owner from Michigan

The clockspring type window balances  that I need have an overall length of 65”. The markings on the ends of the existing springs are #5.0  39”  PAT523208 which is imprinted on the end of the spring that connects to the pivot shoe on the bottom of the window. The springs are 3/8" wide and there are two of them on each side of the windows.  The springs attach to the pivot shoe on the bottom of the window and are housed in dual coil supports at the top of the window frames.

The distance from the bottom of the movable window sash to the bottom of the coil supports is about 52”. The distance from the top of the bottom sash to the bottom of the coil supports is about 23 1/2”. I bought some S165-5 coil balances which have a working length of 35" but an overall length of about 40" which just won't work fot my windows.

Thanks for reaching out to us. Unfortunately, they don't make springs as long as yours anymore. Some time in the recent past, pretty much all coil balance manufacturers changed their systems to allow 40" of travel at most. You're not going to find anything as long as 65" anywhere. It's just not made anymore.

The shorter balance you bought from us will still work, but you need to mount it lower in the window. Just make sure that you mount it below the lower-most position of the tilt latch to ensure that it doesn't interfere with the window's normal operation.
