Single Hung Window Channel Balance

Need to replace as the nylon string on one of the balances severed and broke. Markings on the channel balance: 20-4 KC5 CMC 54. Measured length is 21 inches.

Thanks for your photos. Based on what I see here, you have either our S380-21 or S385-21, depending on the depth of the bottom shoe. That's the only difference between them. I recommend measuring your shoe and referring to our dimensions to confirm the best match.

It appears the S385 is the best match. Based on the markings on my original balance would the 2040 stamp option be the correct option? I'm basing this on the 20-4 portion of the marking.

Yes! A stamp of 20-4 usually corresponds to our modern 2040 option. Two balances with this stamp can carry a sash weight of 15 through 23 pounds. If you have any doubts, you can always weigh your sash to verify that it falls in that range.
