Sliding door handle replacement

Home Owner from Connecticut
Good Afternoon

I need assistance in identifying the correct replacement handle for my sliding glass door. The sticker on the inside of the door is SGD-R35- 71x80. The measurements of the installation screws are 3 and 3/4 apart and the entire length of the door handle is 9.5 inches.

I had previously purchased part # 82-086 which is too short. I also purchased the multi point mortise lock with face plate , part number 82-265 and that does fit.

Can you assist in advising the correct door handle to purchase as well as verifying that the multi point lock part number 82-265 will work with those handles. I have attached several pictures of all of the hardware currently installed on the door.

Lastly , is there a way to return the incorrect part - original order number is 2247013.

Thank you

Hi Rob. Sorry to hear of your trouble with the 82-086. Can you go into more detail as to why it wouldn't work? Note that the overall size of the handle set is usually irrelevant. So long as the hole spacing is the same, it will fit your door and work with the 82-265

I did check and it does line up - I was able to get the handles assembled and installed on the door . The problem now is the door doesn't want to lock . The lock "prongs " do not want to line up with the "catch" on the door- picture below. That piece is original and I did not replace. Is there a special piece that must be used with 82-265? again, I did buy nee handles and new multi point lock but I did not replace that piece attached.

Thank you

This is a common occurrence with all mortise locks. The hooks need to be individually adjusted after installation. You'll see two small, slotted screws next to each hook. Turning these allows the hook to extend further or retract back into the housing, depending on how you turn it. You'll need to adjust these appropriately to ensure that the hooks properly align with your door's existing keeper.

In a worse case scenario you may need a new 82-249 keeper. This is explicitly made to work with the 82-265 mortise. However I don't think this will be necessary; in 90% of cases, adjusting the hooks does the trick.
