Sliding door roller replacement

Home Owner from Newark, Delaware
Hello, I have a 30 year old heavy aluminum tempered glass patio door with damaged rollers. The rollers are made of steel with 1.25 inch wheel diameter. There is a roller with one wheel  on each side of the door. The dimensions of the housing is 2.25 by 1.25 inches, 3/8 inches thick. There is a rectangular piece sticking out with dimensions 1/4 by 1/2 inches on the side of the mounting hole. Please help with identifying a replacement for these rollers. Thank you, Cristina

Hi Cristina,

Your patio door roller appears to be missing its outer housing. This piece is likely to still be installed in the bottom of the door, so you'll need to remove it to accurately compare its dimensions.

We do not have an exact match for the roller you have but the 81-279 Patio Roller Assembly should work to replace it. Carefully look over the specifications and see what you think.

Hi Jasmine, you are right. I was able to remove the outer housing and it looks and measures like the one you suggested. Only one side of the door has a damaged roller. thank you, Cristina

Hi Cristina,

I'm glad to hear you were able to find it. You may be okay with replacing only one roller but I do want to be sure to mention that the older one could cause the replacement to wear out faster.

You may want to consider replacing both at once so that you won't have to go through this process again, later down the line.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any additional questions you might have!
