Spiral balances

The rods come with a white grease smeared (inside the tube) on the metal spiral. It means you won't need to lubricate the balances again for two to five years.

Charging is necessary to get the balance to provide the right amount of lift. It involves using a 75-006 tool to wind the spiral up, similar to a watch, to give it tension. Three turns is standard, and if you find that you need more than four or five turns, take a step back and contact us. The guide below sort of goes over how charging works:

As far as your tip color, if you need S900-26 (tilt window with 3/8" x 26" tube), then choose green or yellow. Yellow has a little extra spring, but both should work. There's a chart in the product description that lists the weight ranges, if you want to take a look.

Finally, take a look at our video on the general installation of these balances:

A quick learner from Springvale, Maine says:
What does it mean when it says rods come fully lubricated and ready to be charged. What does the charging process intail?
Also my rods have no colored tips, the window weighs 25 pounds, what color tip do I need?
