Spiral window balance replacements

Handy Person from Decatur, GA

Hi Swisscom customer service ,

I am trying to replace failing spiral balances and pivot shoes alum insulated windows in a townhome(built ~2004). Bottom sash tilts and 2 window sizes are

  • (A)~34.5" wide x 35.25" H
  • (B)~46.5" wide x 32.25" H

Balances currently installed are 3/8" dia w/ white plastic covers. ~34.5" long (assume replacement would be 35). All windows have same balances size installed. Currently hv 6 windows having issues with. Which balances would you recommend for replacement?

Also current pivot shoes measure ~3/8" thick x 1" wide x 2" tall. Looking thru catalogue appears 15-045-correct?

Thanks for you help and assistance

Sincerely,

Grady

Thanks for posting! For 3/8" diameter spiral balances for tilt windows, I'd go with our Series 900 as a replacement. You're right in assuming that you'd round up to 35". Some older manufacturers used to make these in 1/2" increments, but no longer. We find that rounding up to the next inch works fine.

As for the shoe, I think our 15-212 may be a better option. This is similar to the 15-045 but is 1/16" less wide and it's designed to accommodate pivot bars that are 5/16" x 3/16", like our 26-040. The 15-045, on the other hand, is designed to accommodate pivot bars that are 1/4" x 3/16". Look these parts over and see what you think.

Thank you Tom.
I ordered the series 900 balances and 15-045 pivot shoes before saw reply. Thanks for heads up on 15-212 shoes...confirmed pivot bar pocket dimensions are more inline with what was existing. Oops. So now I've ordered those for replacement. Appreciate your help and expertise.
